September brought the Autumn Equinox and last weekend the clocks changed. It feels like a good time to reflect on the value of recognising the seasons and allowing space for a circular rhythm in life as well as linear progression, space for finishing things off as well as starting new projects, space for rest and reflection as well as focusing on the outside world.
September brought a few days in the Lake District. There is something very special about the Lake District and being in amongst mountains.
The Kilchurn Castle piece is probably finished now. Kilchurn Castle sits on Loch Awe in Scotland and was built in the mid-1400s.
I enjoyed taking part in Sketchbook Revival 2024, run by Karen Abend. A good opportunity to experiment with different media and play without worrying too much about the end result. It was a good reminder to try to make time for that in my practice.
The Autumn colours on the trees have been gradually developing through September and October, and are now looking stunning. I have enjoyed seeing them at Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal, as well as Thorp Perrow, where the Acers on the avenue are a brilliant red. Berries and leaves have made it into my nature journal (something else that I want to make into a routine), inspired by a quick visit to Nosterfield Gravel Pits.
