A combination of having work done on the house and the summer holidays mean that I have not spent as much time in the studio as normal (not least because there was a lot of tidying and sorting required in the house before the work).
I did get into the studio for a short time though, and am continuing to work on the Kilchurn Castle piece. I’ve been adding the reflections in the foreground, and playing around with the colours of the hillside. I want to bring out the different colours and create the curving shapes of the hillside, but I will also need to make sure that the colours don’t stand out so much that they distract from the foreground and the castle.
I have been several walks though, so those will provide inspiration for future pieces. We enjoyed a walk from West Witton to Swininthwaite via Redmire Force (with a stop at Fairhurst’s at Berrys Cafe), a walk up Roseberry Topping, and a walk from Reeth to Maiden Castle (an Iron Age enclosure) and back via the cafe at the Dales Bike Centre. On walks with a child, a cafe works as a useful incentive!
We managed a week in Scotland in Perthshire, including a few walks and a fascinating visit to The Scottish Crannog Centre next to Loch Tay. I will try to do a future post about The Scottish Crannog Centre, but I definitely recommend it if you are in that area. The sketch is of Glen Tilt.
Looking forward to September, I am hoping to get the Kilchurn Castle piece finished, get the new prints uploaded onto the website and get to the Lake District for a few days of walks.
