A birch tree clinging to a rock for those days when life feels a bit like you’re a tree clinging onto a large rock on the windy moor, roots searching for every bit of nourishment and stability you can find.

Restrictions have meant that many of the things that would usually nourish me – family, friends, long walks in the hills – have not been possible, and I need to search for small pockets of nourishment here and there. For me it’s often been the garden, particularly as Spring has brought flowers and colour. What has helped you?

A birch tree on a rock at Brimham Rocks, a National Trust site in North Yorkshire, was the inspiration for the piece (photograph below). Cards and prints of the artwork are available in my shop.
