I was recently in Teesdale, helping to supervise Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions. As normal this involved lots of driving around and sitting in random laybys and little car parks. I did manage to get out for a short walk, and as I had E in the back carrier I could take a few photos.

I was struck by the space and emptiness. In comparison to Wensleydale (my ‘local’ dale which I’m more familiar with) Teesdale is very quiet and there are far fewer people.

The weather was beautiful when I was there but even so there was a bleak aspect to the dale. It wasn’t really surprising to see the abandoned house.

I am planning to see what I can do with the photos and memories from the trip, incorporating the space, bleak feel, reservoirs and stone buildings.
